Preservation for decades: A note from Bill.
Since I started work on this building in the late 1970’s, my company has done many projects, starting with fixing a leaking roof and beginning the process of cleaning out the bell tower. The first time that I was in the bell tower there was over 3’ of pigeon dung and debris in many places. Throughout the years there have been several notable projects that we have completed on the building including the interior stabilization of the bell tower in 1998. In the last 42 years we have done some type of work on the courthouse each year. Over the years the one common item that I have noticed is the desire of all of the commissioners that I have worked with to repair, protect, and preserve the courthouse for future generations. I grew up in Napoleon, looking up at the Lady of Justice as a child, and this weekend I am going to stand on top of the courthouse, hook her to the crane, and bring her to the ground to begin the process of restoring and preserving her for the future.
